Ingersoll Rand compressor questions

I have an old Ingersoll Rand Type 30 compressor Model 222 C4. It fell off a truck (literately) years ago and bent the crankshaft on the pump where the pulley sits. It's been sitting like that for years and I just got around to taking it apart to see what I need to get for it and I'm having a hard time finding parts (online anyways).

I can't find any info, diagrams, part numbers, etc. on the Model 222 C4. There's a number cast into the crank that says 22081, which comes back to nothing in my searches.

I also discovered the weights off the end of the crank were both broken too. At first I thought they were some kind of governor but I don't see why an air pump would have one so I am now thinking they're some kind of oiler for the rod bushings?

I'd appreciate any info or leads on where to locate parts so I can get this sucker up and running. Thanks

Where are you located?

Go to www.ingersollrandproducts.com and click on contact us. You can enter your ZIP code and get the name and phone number of your local distributor.

That's a very old pump- it might be a single-stage based on the fact that the cylinder sizes and strokes are identical. I just looked on the Ingersoll-Rand parts website and there's no information available whatsoever. My guess is that parts are going to be expensive and hard to find. If you can wait until Monday I can see if there's any data in our paper archives.

I'm from Chicago. I went to their site earlier today and found a place not far from me, they took my info and said they would get back to me on Monday, just trying to get all the information I can before I start ordering parts.

I've been searching for hours and can't find ANYTHING on a Model 222 pump. I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth fixing or just trying to track down a replacement pump as my tank, motor, etc. are all fine.

Those flyweights are to operate the centrifugal unloader. If you look an the back cover above the name tag you will see an air connection. Inside is a valve that is opened by the action of the flyweights. When the machine is running the flyweights are thrown outward by centrifugal force and the flyweights push on a plunger forcing it inward away from the valve in the cover.
When the machine stops the flyweights collapse and a spring pushes the plunger out wards toward the valve and pushes a little pushrods to open the valve and release air pressure in the head of the compressor so next time it starts it will be free.

Some crankshafts can be straightened by a good machine shop. The flyweights can be welded and drilled to restore their operation. You would probably need to press off the outer bearing and shrink ring. The only way to remove the inner bearing is to cut it off with a torch (gas ax).

Or you can remove them all together and use a pressure switch with an unloader valve attached to it.

It is probably easiest to install a new pressure switch with an attached unloader valve...

Although the functioning will be not be exactly the same.. the original centrifugal unloader will only close the air blow-off when a certain RPM is reached (so called 'delayed unloader valve').

But I still think it should work...
