Looking for information on a IR 2420f compressor. It has a Kohler command 11 hp gas engine, which is bad. I am wanting to replace the gas engine with an electric motor. I have not found any information on the compressor as far as rpm's and what HP electric motor would work for me. Any information would be appreciated. This will be the first time I have attempted this.

Thanks donny123

these 2420 series were harder to find info on them . i just scored a super clean unit and he saved every slip for it .

here is the stuff i scanned un on it . i can try and measure pulleys later to get you on the right track for the electric .

mine is a 5hp unit 1725 rpm .

Usually figure 2:1 gas hp vs electric, so a (true) 5 hp (1725 - 1750 rpm) electric motor should work fine. You'll also need to change from the pilot pump control to a pressure switch for 'start / stop' operation. I also recommend adding a magnetic starter for the motor rather than relaying on the pressure switch to carry the starting current.

Hey Donny, I just got to thinking, if your compressor was a 'service truck' type of unit with a small (30 +/-) gallon receiver, I suggest you keep the pilot valve and add the pressure switch with valving to enable you to switch from continuous run to start/stop mode. If not, the motor will be constantly starting and stopping which is a death wish for motors. Or add a larger receiver into the system.

You are correct on the tank being thirty gallon. I will take your advice and may add another tank to the system.
