So why the thread title claiming IR tools are garbage? Is that because you don't know how to take them apart? So your not putting the garbage IR tools in the garbage? You know words on the Internet's tend to be searchable for a LONG time.

I kept it clean. Garbage is garbage. I am not the slightest bit concerned with anything being on the internet for a long time. Diagrams i have and do not help. Ir customer service wants it taken to their service provider to be repaired and pay them and not give any info on taking it apart so I can do it myself. Maybe its pride or stubbornness but i like being able to do for myself

It'd be highly unusual to get a step-by-step disassembly guide for any power tool. Usually a parts diagram is as good as you're going to get.

Most air tools (including the ones you linked) are very straight forward to get apart. Very rarely do they have any kind of surprises or hidden secrets to pull them apart.

I guess I for one am a little confused also...

If you look at the above diagram it will explain how the parts are put together are you saying that is not enough information for you to get the job done ?

Are you implying that all IR tools are junk ?

When you were on the phone with IR did you inquire about buying a rebuild kit for your model in question ?

Did you ask them for a pdf to be sent to you for a specific diagram of your model in question ?

So how come the rest of us, running our IR tools on clean dry air, aren't having problems with these "garbage" tools? Quite frankly, if you can't take one of these fairly simple tools apart with just a parts diagram, you probably shouldn't.

Maybe offer the tools up for to someone for shipping costs who can actually fix them and put them back into service. I agree if a parts diagram is of no assistance maybe fixing air tools is not your thing. Don't junk them because 'you' think there garbage.

The 301 is probably the cheapest die grinder IR sells, hard to judge their entire line up with that metric, (almost all of my air tools are IR). they are simple enough that you should pretty easily be able to guess your way through taking it apart, though whatever service parts you need for it will probably be a wash compared to just buying a new $40 die grinder.

So get this. I call up the customer service for the manufacturer who made my car in Dearborn, Michigan and say "how do i take this apart, I want to fix it"

They have the nerve to tell me to take it to a dealership or a qualified service shop to have it looked at. I tell them, no - I like to work on cars. Now tell me how to fix this.

"Well, we can give you a diagram of how it goes together"

"No, tell me how do it. Like step by step"

Can you believe that they wouldn't?

Sheesh

When selling my 1981 Ford van this week I came across the Ford manuals my dad purchased back when it was new. They are step by step repair manuals that were available over the counter to the general public, so yes they would tell you step by step how to fix the car.

I gave all but this engine manual to the new owner, but kept this one for my truck repair manual bookshelf as a reminder of the Van.

He bought a service manual.

If you called Ford in 1982 and asked customer service how to do something, they still wouldn't be telling you over the phone how to do it.

Purchasing a repair manual designed for independent repair shops is a lot different than calling up customer support and asking how to disassemble the thing.

I wonder if the op fixed the garbage air tools yet? I couldn't do customer service dealing with people all day and their opinions of how you should be doing things.

Somebody please recommend me a half inch air drill with high-torque/anti-stall. I'm zeroed in on CP789HR Chicago pneumatic. Are there any better ones to be had for a $250 budget? Thanks

If you need a step-by-step video to teach you how to put something together that you are also taking apart then you shouldn't be servicing it yourself. Send it to someone who can fix it.

IR's entry level models are garbage. I bet you went and bought them without doing your research. As for fixing it yourself, if you can't open up the air tool, diagnose the problem, and use the parts diagram to order the correct part, then don't do it. Get someone else to.
