Ok I have the Mac 3/8 version that my Mac driver told me was made by IR but with a few changes supposedly for the better. Anyways just got it Wednesday and used it only a couple times once on a 1/2 ton lug nut just to see what happened with no idea if the thing was torqued to spec or not but it zipped it right off that made me smile lol.

I know others have the hammerhead probably mostly in 3/8 drive and may chime in soon.

Woodstockva started a thread about the battery version and gsteg posted some comments on the thread about the air version. You might look up that thread....

Do you trust your Mac Driver? If so you may want to reconsider. IR is no longer making anything for Mac.

Take a look at the cordless version, just as much or more torque.

I tried one before. There was a recall on the first ones that came out.Another thing they had a problem with, power problems and I am sure they have it fixed.Grease got in the veins in the air powered versions resulting in power loss.Clean out of the grease and it works fine after that.

Do you have to change seals to prevent the grease from reentering the veins?

I've had the 3/8 version for about 3 years.
Comes in handy for those tight spots where a traditional impact will not fit.

It could stand to have a few more "balls" on the impact side; I believe it's rated at 185 ft/lb of torque.

I've never had any problems with mine.

Bought mine when they first came out and I work it like a ***** every day(night actually), no probs at all. I would go air over the electric one as its big enough without the battery hanging off of it.

I don't know about that.My Matco tool dealer has seen this problem, customer brought in with this problem not changing the seal.Cleaned all of the grease out and the customer was happy.

I might have to open mine up and check for grease on the veins then. I always felt it was a little under powered

Got mine in 3/8" also (they're same aside from anvil size). Must have if you're in flat rate. It will pay for itself in the first week alone just on grunt work like caliper bracket and pin bolts. Gets into some pretty tight places in the engine bay too. Nice tool and a good time saver in general.

You don't need to, it's fine. I have never seen this problem. If you are concerned, flush it with WD40 then oil.

I've had a 3/8 for 3 years. I had to get it rebuilt once, but I use it daily. I love it.

I bought mine initially to take off caliper carrier bolts and it seems to struggle to do that. I got it checked out after about a month of owning it but the repair place said nothing was wrong. I have owned it for probably 3 years and because of that it sits in my box most of the time.

Seems a bit hit and miss with them I have spoken with a few blokes who have one and thay say some are underpowered but it maybe thay are running on a air supply that is not giving enough free air pressure

It is sort of hit and miss. My air hammerhead will remove lots of bolts but it struggles with some of the caliper bolts. Bolts originally torqued to 80 ft-lbs from the factory wouldn't budge but I've removed bolts that were torqued to 120 ft-lbs with no issues (both installed at the same time). I guess sometimes that extra bit of rust on the fasteners really make a difference. Still, it saves time when working on suspensions.

Even if you have to use a spanner and whack it with a hammer, the IR will take it off the rest of the way quick. But I know the extra trips ****, been there.

I'd buy the 3/8 as someone mentioned, they are the same except for the anvil as far as power. Reason being, you can then use adapter sleeves for little space/power loss.

It really doesn't replace any impact, with about 1/2 the power of a regular 3/8ths. But it will replace an air ratchet 90% of the time (its still a bit bulky) and makes a lot more torque. No whipback is a big plus vs a ratchet. I don't use mine as much as I hoped when I bought it as I'm in heavy diesel service, but its handy to have around. It will fit in an Eaton Fuller Trans for Pressure plate bolts, for instance.

I sure could have used the battery one on Friday. I was at pick-a-part getting a set of leaf springs and the U-bolts faced the ground so the battery 1/2" gun wouldn't fit and then the leaf spring bolts were tucked up in there as well.

I used hand ratchet, but the hammerhead would have worked beautifully on both of these areas.
