I got a 1/2 drive deep Stanley set from WM months ago for $17 a metric and standard set each. I use them on wheel lugs all the time, huge cheater bars. They've held up perfectly.

my 1/2" are IR that i bought at Northern tools. Never had any issues with them. They work, i guess my only grip is they aren't complete sets. They seem to skip sizes like many of the cman sets.

If i get some money i'd like to repace them, especially the metric with an SK set. One that goes all the way up to 36mm.

I'd just get a craftsman set(s). Personaly, I have mostly Snap On impact sockets. I buy them on ebay (brand new!) for the same price as Craftsman sets. Just gotta keep an eye out.

Thanks, guys, for the advice. I may just wait a little while. I really like the sockets, but I got to thinking of the material they're made of and now I'm not so sure. May wait and find something harder/impact rated.

I got a free deep set with a new 231c from the snap on guy, gave them to a buddy of mine. He does a lot of heavy diesel work (large commercials street sweepers) and he says they have held up well. No warranty on them, but hell, they are free.

If you want warrantied, reasonably priced impact sockets, NAPA has a 'professional' socket line from Taiwan (apparently made by Sunex). It's funny because their USA impacts I guess aren't 'professional' enough. Anyway, if you work in a shop you might be able to get the discount I get since we also buy car parts from them. Don't get their socket swivels though, too bulky.

I have noticed that too, that the professional series is made in Taiwan and the regular line is made in USA. They are both good quality tools for the money. As far as IR sockets a few guys have used them and never had any problems. The guys at work also use alot of Harbor Freight impacts and have good luck with them but they are a thicker wall and hard to get into some spots.
