Does anyone know anything about these ratchets? Not much turns up on a google search. Apparently made in early 80's, 9.6v rechargeable 3/8 ratchets.

What would you like to know? I know what the tool you are talking about but not too much about it. I may be able to dig up info.

I guess just wondering specs on it. Rpm? ft/lb? How well did it work? Why did it die out, ahead of its time/poor batt technology?

I saw one on a craigslist and he was asking what seemed like a lot for it. $75

Hi, I know all about the redi-ratchet ! The redi-ratchet was a flop when it came out. It was made by KKU in Japan for Ingersol Rand in the early 80's. The battery charger would over charge the batteries and burn them out if left on charge too long. The next problem was that it was marked and sold as a 9.6 volt tool. The batteries at the time had issues. The batteries the tool was designed to use had a vary short run time. The decision was made to release the tool with 6 sub c 1300ma nicad batteries instead of the 8 smaller batteries .... 6 SUB C batteries = 7.2 volts...The battery packs were produced by Sanyo. They were vary special battery packs !!!!! They are NOT like standard sub c batteries . The tool will run vary slow and have little power on standard cells.... The tool needs 9.6 v batteries that have vary low internal resistance and capable of a 35 amp discharge rate.

The good news is that I have designed new battery packs and chargers for the redi-ratchet. It works better today than it ever did ! My battery pack requires a slight amount of machine work to the tool housing to fit. A dremel tool is all that is needed.

I have tested every cordless tool ever produced . The redi-ratchet hands down is the best and most useful cordless ratchet ever produced. (with MY battery pack that is) redi-ratchets show up at garage sales craigs list ect.
I WILL BUY ANY redi-ratchet in any condition. Anyone interested in my battery packs or chargers can reach me at 301-933-5277 or 301-219-7399 or 615-336-4069.
