Inherited some cool stuff

These things belonged to my grandfather who died a couple years ago. My grandmother told me to take basically whatever I wanted that was his. The bell was from their dairy farm they owned when my mom was growing up. The Baldor grinder and the #3 Record vise (real) were in the garage of the house they built after selling the farm in the 70's. I look forward to restoring these when I get my garage all set up. My girlfriend and I recently moved to Vermont and she has given me pretty much free reign over the 24x30 garage to start a gun bluing business.

That's a nice Record #3
Its clearly not been beat on much, just needs some surface rust and a good clean by the look of it, on a swivel base too, not many are.

I use the true hot caustic method. I'll also be doing parkerizing and eventually cerakote painting.

I don't really specialize in a certain genre, but I try to encourage customers to only have "working guns" done. Having a well worn hunting gun reblued is a good idea. Having an antique Winchester 1873 done really isn't. That being said, I feel that it's ok to refinish family heirlooms that will be left in the family. Especially if they will be used. It largely depends on the gun.

It's at least brass plated if not solid brass. It isn't magnetic anyway. I haven't examined it too closely yet.

I hope my (someday) grandkids feel the same way about the vintage/USA stuff I am collecting now.

God knows they won't be able to buy it in 50 years...
