The usable space is restricted in a 2 car shop like this. Had a Bud that did this off the cuff and did a 30x40 and 36 wide would have given so much more usable space along the walls for bench and tool box, shelves. It was always crowded.

Nice layout.

Just my opinion, but if I was building this building and the money maxed out, I would take a bathroom and one "tinker room" that was kept clean and have a combo heat/cool heat pump in it with a TV/stereo to chill out in and B.S with the buds. ( window unit is o.k.) and fore-go the lift for now. ....

One would have to decide which is more important to them and which would be used the most of course. A lift could always be put in later if a $$$ windfall arrived from a inheritance. Once the slab is down, plumbing is tough to do. JMO

I'd either go with one large gable or stack them on the front similar to your upstairs of your house. Two gables side by side is going to be a giant funnel for water and debris right down the front of the building.

sketchup has a feature where you can use google maps and upload your land into sketchup. Then throw you model in your back yard where you want it to go.

If money is really a constraint, and it sounds like it is since you aren't planning to finish the inside, you may want to consider a simple rectangular building rather than having those two doors offset from one another. More corners equals more labor in the foundation, framing, siding, trim, and roof. Given that you've got some roof dormers and the integrated carport areas I don't think the architectural interest of your building would suffer much by taking the bump out of the front, but the cost of your structure may come down more than you'd think.

Just a thought.

Also, if you are in Virginia, why do you have a Texas state flag flying in front of your house???

I look at it and think why mess with the lean to's. Just add a few trusses to each end and you have an enclosed 5 car garage. The cost would be minimal as you already have the sidewalls and the roof cost one way or the other. This allows you to expand and put a larger lean to across the back later on. Even if you do not enclose it, why not continue the roof line all the way thru instead of the lean to?
