Not sure how hot this is, but I sure jumped on it. If you have an old Innova scanner and go through the process for their upgrade program (send them a picture of your old scanner with your email address visible on a post it note - took me about 5 minutes) they will send you an Amazon discount code for their new 5610 scanner. RIght now it's on Amazon @ 30% off normally and they sent me a 30% discount code about 8 hours after I submitted the photo and my email. My total was $179 shipped to my door tomorrow.

This one has bidirectional controls so the most useful thing for me will be to reset throttle position sensor trims on all my GM vehicles when I clean the throttle bodies.

Link is https://www.innova.com/pages/tool-upgrade-program

These are the eligible scanners and you have to be in the US.

Thanks! I just submitted a picture of my old 3140. $179 to my door seems like a pretty good deal to me. I think I paid something near that for the 3140 forever ago.

Big upgrade from my 3100 as well. I went to the website to try and update mine when I saw this program. The 5610 adds a lot of features I didn't have before. Glad you could use one too!

Thanks KSJeff! Sent them a pic of my Craftsman 47177 (Innova 3100) along with my email address... and got an email with a link to the additional 30% discount. Don't even need to send in the old scanner.

As others have stated, seems like a good deal/upgrade for $179.

Thanks OP!…….. Ordered one and I expect it to be delivered tomorrow.

BTW! My old Innova was a must have tool and paid for itself on the first use……… This is a great price for a "upgrade"

Is that a standard USB cable on the bottom left? Mine only had the OBD2 cable with it. As long as it's just a regular USB, I've got penty of those.

Yes, it's a usb a to usb c on mine. Same cable as my android phone and most of my rechargable work lights.

Downloaded the update tool and hooked up my scanner... no updates required. Hooked it up to a 1996 Ford, 2004 Nissan and my 2008 Chevy and connected fine. Had some legacy codes in the Ford (just got it) and used the app to connect to the scanner and download the reports. It seems to continually ask for the app connection, but there's probably a place to turn that off. I like it because I can scan something, the app downloads the report and I can head in and go over the codes at my desk if I need to.

So far so good. Might clean my 2008 throttle body this weekend and see if the TPS reset works as expected. I've never been able to do that electronically. Always go through the manual relearn procedure which is tedious.

Anyone not planning to use their 30% off code? Unfortunately, I don't have an old innova scanner.

Well I guess I missed the boat on this one had it in a cart with discount and total price was $189. Went to check out today and price is $262. Still have the upgrade coupon applied but I guess the Amazon price increased. Not worth it for me at this point I'm going to pass. Should have pulled the trigger last week but was waiting for some funds to clear....

Same. Was going back and forth and missed the boat. Added the scanner to CCC and will watch for price drop again - looks like it happened again not too long ago so there is hope.

I think the Innova upgrade coupon is good until 4/24 (at least, for me it was)... so you can wait to see if the price drops again.

Yeah the code they sent me is good until 4/24. I'm not that concerned about it wasn't planning to upgrade it was just one of those too good to pass up things. My main scanner is an Autel. I keep a different Innova with my "to go" tools just so I can read a code if I need to. The Innova that I would have upgraded still works fine I like to use it after I've made repairs to see when the emissions monitors have reset the Innova is just so fast with that much better than the Autel in that regard. Not really interested in upgrading at almost $300.

Well, ordered mine in time, notice from Amazon that it was shipped, arriving 4/9. On 4/9, received notice that it was delayed in transit and I should receive it by 4/11. If not I could request a refund on 4/12. Has not arrived yet today and amazon has already been here. My guess is that it was “shipped in packaging that shows it’s contents”. I didn’t need a new scanner but this was a great upgrade for a good price.

Mine showed up in a brown box. Not a Amazon box, but one of those "box from China" brown boxes with writing all over it. I believe it did say Innova on the box, but it was not the package you'd grab off the shelf at your local auto parts store. Hope it shows up for you.

Got mine and used it to pull a code for a neighbors kid. Handy little thing, and much quicker than lugging out the Modis. Mine also came in the plainish brown box.

This is on lightning deal right now for $241.09, there is a 10% promotion on it as well. Not sure if you can use that and the 30% coupon same time but could be a steal!

EDIT: Just looked again and there is a little link underneath for an extra 20% savings. The 10% and 20% combine, maybe the 30% can also be used on top of it?

Still waiting on my code...

My code came in, ordered, and Amazon just dropped off the same day. I selected ship in Amazon packaging but they shipped in the Innova box anyway, I guess because it's brown. The retail box was inside.

Not sure how exactly they combined the discounts, but between the lightning deal, 30%, 20%, and 10% discounts, I ended up paying $137.56 plus tax! Helluva deal!

Thanks OP!

Going to reply to myself again. When I was on the Innova website, there was a popup for an extra year of coverage warranty that I went through and submitted my info. Can't get the link to come back up though. Worth looking for it.

-----

There appear to be multiple versions with the same part number. Mine does NOT have the rubber overmold shown in the picture above, and did NOT come with a case or a USB cable. Mine says made in Taiwan. The USB cable isn't a deal breaker, the case would be really nice to have - though I could re-use my old one, but the rubber overmold would definitely make a difference if dropped or banged around. I might buy another one and send this one back and see if I can get one of the other ones. Not sure if they are newer or older though.

What did everyone else get?

Mine arrived over the weekend... in an Innova-branded cardboard shipping box containing the retail box. Had both the rubber molding and USB cable... also made in Taiwan.

As for the extra year of warranty... I saw that, too. Easiest way to get it to reappear is to either use another browser or access via 'incognito' mode (probably could also clear cache/cookies). It'll ask for your Amazon Order ID... and says it'll send you an email in 1-2 days if you're eligible for the extra year's warranty.

Follow up to this for anyone interested: I reordered a scanner and received the other version, definitely going to return the first. They come in identical boxes - same SKU and everything on them. You can see the non-overmold scanner comes in a plastic throw-away tray, with the OBD cable. The overmold scanner comes in a case, with OBD cable and USB cable. Also, the overmold scanner comes with a thick owner's manual, while the non-overmold comes with a quick-start guide. The scanner itself seems to be the same, they both even say v2 on the top. So, no way to tell the difference when placing an order, but the overmold is definitely the better package.

Hey Man would you be interested in selling the one instead of returning it? I don't have one currently to take a picture of with my email address so so far just sitting on the sidelines watching everyone get their scanners ha!

I could only get the big discount on one, it limits you to one per code from what I can tell. Sending PM.

Online, they all look the same. How do you know if you've ordered the one with the manual and extra case, etc?

Tractor Supply

Amazon
There is no way to tell - the boxes are identical - even the UPC. You literally can't tell until you open the box. But I suspect the overmold/case version is a newer version. You might have to play the return game like I did, but hopefully since Amazon moves a lot of product you get lucky the first time.

Has anyone tried the tool? How is it? Has anyone tried the Live Data feature? Any comments on that?

I'm curious as the actual abilities and limitations of its bi-directional functioning. If anyone has used the bi-directional controls, please feel free to include which particular functions you've had success with and/or failure. Make/model/year of vehicle would be especially helpful.

So far:
2001 Nissan Xterra - pulled ABS code for g-sensor. Haven't taken it apart yet.
2005 Nissan Maxima - Cam position sensor failure. Changed and fixed
1996 Ford F150 - stumbles on highway drives at consistent throttle - Live monitor worked fine for ST/LT fuel trims. Finally popped a P304 and replaced a plug wire to cylinder 4. Fixed.
2008 Tahoe - tested the TPS reset. No issues, just tested to see if it worked. No issues.

I'm a backyard guy and I've never worked with a full system scanner or scope so YMMV.
