Anyone use inovva scanners? I need something that can do a lot more than just a basic code reader, but i can't afford an ethos or solus right now. I keep seeing magazine adds for the inovva scanners and they are really decently priced. anybody got opinions on these?

Read codes, freeze and live data for obd1/2. Would be cool to reset GM adaptive shift limits and be able to change rim and gear sizes too. Think i'd probably have to buy a solus ultra for that stuff though.

Innova will work well for codes/freeze/live data, but you're looking at a big price jump for the other stuff. As an alternative to Innova, I really like the Autel scanners. I have a basic one that I use for quick stuff so I don't have to drag out the Modis.

I got the Innova that reads CAN and ABS. Works great and very convenient. Very fast at communicating. Only thing is it can only read live data and some abs codes. It doesnt have any functionality control.

I just got the Autel MD802 and it's leaps and bounds better than my old Innova Equus scan tool. They cost about the same.

MD802 is $435, that makes it hard for me to buy and work on new fangled cars/trucks. Is this inline with a OBD2/3?

I did see a Snappy scanner at pawn shop $200 I think.

I just purchased the MD802 on Amazon for $280 shipped. The new top-of-the-line Innova I was looking at was only $35 cheaper. My old Innova was $250, but I bought it about 7 years ago, when these things cost an arm and a leg.

Bought an Innova 3160 a couple of months ago, as I needed to diagnose an ABS failure on a Honda. It's very easy to use, and has far more capability than I expect I'll ever need. Ordered it through Walmart.com, and had it in a little over a week.

Hmm, So it's not buying the best out there, it depends on what enters your stall with code issues? I guess it would'nt take about 3 cars to pay for it. Are they software updateable?

I recently picked up the top end Innova 3160. It goes for $200 w/free shipping on Amazon.
I like it so far.

Actually, the newest top end Innova is the EPI31603 - Costs $235 on Amazon. This one is only GM, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota and Honda specific. The 31703 includes all the OBDI connectors.

The Autel MD802 has all the manufacturer-specific codes for just about EVERY manufacturer in the world (they borrowed the operating parameters HEAVILY from the Autel Maxidas.)

What about all the manufacturer specific PID's? Most of these cheapish scanners do all the codes; the PID's are the real interesting part.

I hope to get the maxidas soon. It is an awesome machine. It has bidirectional control and read every single module on the car and has all the common connectors For obd 1.

I use a Matco MD1072 which is made by Innova and it has been great. One of the things it does that many other tools in this price range won't do, is it will show live bidrectional data for body and chassis modules. Most just do live engine data. This tool has saved my shop a ton of time and money over the last 6 months. Updates are quite frequent via the dedicated web site for this line of tools
