Had my HVAC guy come by the house to see about adding heat to the garage.

It’s a 850sq space and two different ceiling heights of 9’ and 11’ with rooms about the 11’ space.

So almost kind of stuck with an in wall NG or a complex set of venting due to roof pitch and other complexities on my 3rd car section.

Back to my question anyone have experience?

If you want comfort and economy look at the Rinnai EX-38. Much more money, but you get what you pay for. Vents straight out the back and the vent is included in the box. Programmable stat built in and can be set as low as 38*, should you choose. Seven stage modulating gas valve and burner. Cool to the touch, quiet, simple install and extremely reliable. I am sorry to say this about Cozy, Empire, etc but those vert wall furnaces, I'd sooner build a camp fire in the middle of the floor.

Appreciate it. I’m not really sold on it myself.

Was also seeing if I could figure out a way to vent a radiant from superior I’ll draw it up and post for feedback as well

Had one apart the other day, way cheap construction, but pretty simple.
Gas regulator dead, about $160.
Not much different from how they were in the 70s.

I've installed a few of them over the years, they work fine but are pretty basic, the rinnai unit Jackfre is talking about should be a much nicer unit.

If you go with a cozy wall unit with the top oval vent pipe make sure it can stay oval for whatever the instructions say, if they don't show it call cozy, if you don't have oval straight up it will not vent properly, been there done that.

I installed one of those in a house about 15 years ago. It worked fine.

The nice thing about heating a garage with that vs a hanging heater is the heat blows out down low and then rises. If it does what you need it to, I wouldn't hesitate to use one.

It allowed me to install vents on both sides as well so could direct air to different areas.

Was thinking about this and recalled a conversation I had probably 20 yrs ago. I was up in White River Junction, VT, and I had a room full of gas techs I was training on the Rinnai wall furnaces and I said, "You should never sell another of those vertical wall furnaces. The EX38 will out-heat any of them." One of the the guys, he was a Suburban Propane tech offered, "I replaced my vertical wall furnace with a 1004 (predecessor to the 38) in my home last year." I asked how it was going and he replied, "Well, I'm saving money, I'm more comfortable and I don't need to turn off the heat in order to watch TV."
