Jake Hi,

Do you think I could get the same deal as Jacob Stem, you know the one where he bought the spring from the native Americans for 12 bags of wheat, 12 bags of oats, 12 bags of corn and a mule...(Green springs, Ahia)

I looked at the box in question and it looked ok, but darn wish we could buy it for some oats.

I played with the Husky box at HD and it's not something I'd buy. Especially for $1000 dollars. Buy a used truck box. You won't regret it. A beat up truck box will out perform a brand new big box store box every day of the week.

It all depends on what you want to use it for. For home use the husky offers the most bang for the buck right now. From what I've seen they seem to hold up well over time in that capacity. For daily shop use maybe not so much so it just depends on your plan. I have been looking at the 56 in box they have on sale for $498. Nice layout with drawer liners included.

What are you going to use it for? For just home weekender type stuff the husky will last a long time and has some nice features like a power strip in the top, the extra deep top without a lip thats nice, they have the self closing drawer slides and I believe has a drawer with power for charging. The hf doesn't have all those features but is built a little heavier, and would be better for medium usage. For heavier use like in a shop where your in and out of your box all day save up and get a used truck brand.

I'm a weekend warrior that does a fair bit of wrenching on cars and old tractors. I've had a 26" craftsman for the last 15 years but I need a bigger box.

Saw the Milwaukee, dewalt and the new husky and they're all junk. They don't come even close to the hf boxes let alone an old tool truck brand. Spend your money on the gerneral or save your pennies for a tool truck brand. I have the red two drawer stack from hf and I'd buy two of them before I'd buy one of the others. They're so floppy it's sad that a brand would put their name on it.

My choice would be
1st masterforce from Menards (if that's an option)
2nd Used truck brand
3rd HF bang for the buck (no personal experience)

I have never been a fan of the husky box's as others have said cheap/thin if i'm going to spend the money i want/need it to work and last for me.

I think this is excellent advice.

The Husky boxes seem like cheap **** to me. I bought one about 15 years ago and the newer ones don't seem any better. They won't last. It toppled over when I was moving it. Took my hands off it, turned around, and crash bang boom. The top box is now warped, the top won't close, won't lock, one or two drawers were severely damaged. Costco boxes are about the same.

The Menards boxes actually seemed decent for the price. They feel more sturdy.

Used truck brand boxes are very, very good especially if you get one of the upper tier boxes that hasn't been beat to hell. I actually toppled over a Snap On KRL by seeing how many drawers I could open before it tipped. There are a few dings. Some touch up paint no big deal. Nothing was warped. Keep in mind a 54" Snap On KRL weighs 500 pounds empty. I stood in the top drawer when I first got it. Try that with a Husky box.

However, HF seems like the readily available winner for both price and convenience of purchase.

I open the drawers and see how much they move side to side. A cheap box will have a lot of side to side movement in the drawer from thin metal and cheap slides. After that its sheer weight and bulk. Also, the cheaper boxes have a lot of "side" material. So a 56" Kobalt box might have a 48" drawer. That's 8" of wasted space. A 54" KRL will have a 50" drawer. They use thicker steel so they don't need to be as wide.

Sure, this is anecdotal, but it works for me when choosing a box.

They had those for 698 on Black Friday. It's well worth that if you ask me, not sure about full price though.

I played with them in the store. The drawer slides were nice and it was plenty solid. The soft-close deal made them a little hard to open, but that may go away after you get them broken in.

I have the 52" extra deep Husky box, and I don't have any complaints with it. Great box, especially for the money.

I have the red HF cart as well, the slides have the same amount of side play, and the Husky slides are a lot smoother. The HF 44 drawers feel about the same to me as well, even though it has thicker steel.

I bought the yellow one(DuhFault) and have it at the column shop. Its an OK box. The HF 44/56/72 is a better product for grease monkeys. These are better for carpentry tool storage. Deep drawers. Electric for chargers etc. The red one says Milwaukee or Husky .Theres a green one too ? Greenfield? Greenlee ? Its all China **** but fairly decent for the buck. Ya get what ya pay for.....most of the time:dunno:

There is a wholesale place by me who has the 72"? Husky for $400 right now and I'm in same boat as you looking at hf & husky I like the hf the most as the husky boxes look and feel cheap to if you look at the welds inside of draws they look roughed on everyone I looked at.

I bought the new Husky box. Had been looking for a new one for about a year before i finally broke down and bought it. I looked at the original 52" right next to this one. I'm happy with it for the money. Its a home use box, and I cant justify what a truck brand box would have cost, even used. like others have said, just boils down to what you plan on using it for. If i made my living in a manner where I was in and out of it all day, I'd probably go for a truck branded box. For what its intended use will be, i cant complain.

Flexible way to go is to keep the old box and add a cart with a few drawers, then sort your tools most used into the cart, frequent into the old box, and rarely used into original plastic boxes or some kind of semi storage boxes or a peg board wall.
