I need an exact 4 1/4 plug for a project. The way the saws are packaged it is hard to get an exact inside measurement, and at $35 a pop, I hate to guess. Anybody know if I need a 4 3/8" or 4 1/2" saw. Thanks!!

They're probably just under 1/8" thick with the teeth. The actual wall thickness is much less. I would go with a 4.5" and plan on sanding it.

The circle cutter won't work as I'll be using it in a hand held drill. Thanks for the post though.

If you know someone with a bandsaw they will cut circles really nice. Here's a vid.

Thanks for that suggestion, I loaned my band saw to my brother awhile back and didn't even think about it.

A hole saw is simply the wrong tool for this job.

Scribe a line to the diameter you need and sand to the line on a disc sander.

Thanks for all the replies, all were helpful. Will be using the band saw and sander. Best of all I saved $30 bucks.

Turn a log on a lathe and then saw off the number of plugs you need would be another choice for this.

Wood lathe would be my choice of tools to hit a specific diameter and retain maximum roundness.
