I'm about to finish out my soffits (they've just been open since i built then 2 years ago) but i want to enclose them with doors, etc like others have done.

I'm curious what type can lights people have used? Wouldn't halogen get pretty hot in an enclosed soffit space? I've got about 4.5 inches deep (2x4 framing, then i went back and sistered a 1 by on.. I originally didn't plan to enclose it, the sistering is because i ran my threaded rod through the 2by and it was easier to do this to cover the bolt for sheetrock mounting then go back and drill a pocket in my outside frame to hide the threaded rod nut so i could sheetrock flush with no exposed bolt.

I've found some 4" can lights which will fit (lowes) but they use a halogen bulb..the space the can would be is

4.5" x 12" x 24", isn't there a concern with heat in that space?

I may just decide to surface mount some fluorescents, seems like that may work best though the cans do look sharp.

I guess i should add, i'm assuming everyone installed lights in the enclosed soffit shelf framing and didn't leave the soffit shelf open above the cans for ventilation.
