My 40x50 is only heated when I am working in it. I went in tonight for a minute and the temp inside showed to be 36 degrees when it was 21 outside. Right now I only have double bubble insulation.

Just curious if the double bubble is doing some good or if it would be that much warmer without it. I always wished I would have put in regular insulation, but the builder assured me this was better lol. I feel like I was a sucker.

How long was it heated, what temp did it get to and how fast did it drop. We'd need at least some basic temp change information to make an educated guess.

Has not been heated in over a week. Monday it was in the 60's and Tuesday it dropped to 20's.
Go up to 50's yesterday and last night dropped into 20's again and did not get over 30 today.

I retro fitted double bubble to my pole barn shop and have been pretty pleased with the result. Its not only noticeably warmer inside, it stays significantly cooler in the summer and it may be psychological, but it seems quieter.

One thing I definitely like is the mice dont seem to bother it like they do with standard insulation.

My pole barn was 10-15*f when it was 10* below. It's the ground keeping it warm. We've had a very cold winter, and my floor is 20* right now. For the past couple of years, the floor hasn't got below freezing until mid February, but this year has been unusually cold. I have left jugs of water on the floor, and they haven't frozen. Put them on the workbench, and they freeze quickly.

I am only a weekend warrior and only heat when I am gonna be out there. Last winter when it was -15F I did not have any heat going for over a week and it was still 38F in my shop.
My shop is 24x24x8 with Std kraft faced wall bats and 18in of blown in the ceiling.

Did you use that on the roof/ceiling also? I need to improve mine as it just has that standard insulation that goes on before the sheetmetal.

I went out to mine yesterday when it was 16 here, and it was 39 inside. It is insulated in the walls, but there is no ceiling yet. Yesterday afternoon when it was 25 here, it was 49 in there.

Many factors here to consider and all need to be in the calc. Current outside temp, high and low temp for the day, how long it has been sustained cold, building dimensions, sun shining or not (radiant solar heat value), insulation R factor, floor makeup (concrete, wood, dirt, below grade etc.), heat from attached house, heat from vehicle parked inside, what time of day temp differential is taken and so on. So, any insulation is better than none if it has an R value at all. If you heat the shop only when you are in there then you made the right choice based on cost.
