Tomorrow I'm going out to look at a 2 yr old, 5hp single stage 80 gallon Quincy compressor. I've only owned the oil-free Craftsman compressors in the past so I want to know how to inspect it. What should I look for? Oh and the asking price is $600. That seems pretty good to me but what do you guys think?

I'd look at the overall condition
1. was it stored indoors or outside
2. can you watch it operate, turn on, pump to the cutoff pressure and stop.
3. any air leaks
4. condition of the tank. ask for all the manuals/papers if available

Post some pictures. 930

+1 on 930's list

also check the pully's and belt visually and if you can get the belt gaurd off make sure the pully's on the motor and pump dont have any play in them. check the safety valve and make sure it manually opens and closes on its own. also do the good old tap test on the top of the tank, and then the bottom just to make sure he didnt turn the receiver tank into a fluid vessel from neglect of condensation. also check the mounting feet to make sure the welds arent cracked or broken from vibration.

Also,

What series of compressor is it? QR-25 or Air Master? The QT and PLT series are two stage only (I think..) That will help determine the price. $600 for a 2 year old QR-25 is a GREAT deal, the same amount for an Air Master is a good deal.

OK first attempt at photos. The label is not really legible but this is all I've got for photos. I don't know what series it is. I really couldn't find one on the Quincy site that matched it exactly. Maybe specs have changed. It is sitting outside but I'm told it was just recently moved there.

Yep 240 and yes I'm set up for that. Er well sort of. My existing garage will be torn down in the next couple of months to make way for a new larger garage.
