Ours cost 160 now for a service. I was going to bootleg in new panel since the meter is locked out anyway but I really should do the base and someone had already been along with the black tape and covered the covering in the old entrance wire.
This place somehow got by without an inspection when it was built. I am now the guy wishing for some old white romex,, hahahaha but maybe I will pull a permit an do an upgrade and leave any home runs out till the end. It was a left handed rental deal that family did and was going to be rushed to sold tying up equity and I wanted to roof and wire before a sale and everyone drag their feet so the work wasn't done. I am going to upgrade a little and rent to someone I want there anyway and if that goes south will have it ready if I want to sell.

Used to be 50$ which I agree was probably too low but you can feel it drive the cost up on every job, a guy does a double take when deciding on how to proceed.

Maybe I will need to check again with the local inspectors. I was told I needed a GC to hire the electrician to add the receptacle and a permit fee and inspection fee. Total cost of over a grand for what a $50 25' 12/3 extension cord is doing now just fine.

That sounds really strange to me anyway,unless you really pissed off somebody down town.

Normally the inspection fee should be paid for out of the permit fee.

It is, that's the whole thing, 75 app fee, 10 for the service and 75 inspection.

I work all over my state. Permit and inspections fee vary greatly from town to town. Some are almost free while others are ridiculous.

Every city has slightly different rules, but you should not need a GC in the loop if you just want electrical work done. The electrical contractor can pull the permit, or you can even do it yourself.

My city permit office was confused when I pulled the permit myself and had a licensed contractor do the work, but there was no reason it cannot work that way. The contractor is really pulling a permit for you (its your house), and in the end you are the one who has to ensure your contractor fixes any incorrectly performed work. However, in most cases its simpler to let the contractor pull the permit and have them deal with the inspector directly.

Doing my garage now and the permit was $40 and the inspection was $84.

$84 included two site visits. One for rough in and one for a final.

The inspection fee varies depending on what you are getting inspected.

In Orlando, you are not required to hire anybody!

You're allowed to apply for a permit as an Owner/Builder, and do the work yourself
