Good Morning All
Looking for any help or recommendations on installed an exterior storm/screen door on AZEK trim.
I recently did some renovation work at a customer house and replaced all exterior trim and fascia with AZEK.
At the time the customer did not want the storm door (pet reasons)
They have now changed their minds.
I did a quick search and can't find any info.
Doesn't seem to have any strength to hold the screws.
Just don't want the door to fall off or get blown off. :headscrat
Any suggestions!!!!
Thanx

For what it's worth I've hung storm doors on PVC trim with no problems. I would think Azek is no different. Is the trim just 3/4 inch? The PVC I hung storm doors on is brick mold and is about 1.5 inches thick.

Storm doors usually attach with a bunch of short screws all the way around the perimeter. As long as the trim is fastened well to the underlying framing then you should have no problem. Alternatively you could run a few long screws through the trim and directly into the framing.

If its cut and all solid material then it is probably fine. i'd get some longer screws then the manufacturer provided. No harm going through it into the wood/ply on the house.
If its celular pvc and when cut has a not smooth middle kind of like a cross section of melamine, then it won't hold fasteners. I tried doing this on my corner boards. screwed one to the other to install as a unit and it did not hold well.

I replaced all of the fascia and other trim on my house with Azek about ten years ago and if anything I think it holds better than wood. Matter of fact I have a stack of leftovers from when I did it and use it for all sorts of crazy projects.

Just wanted to Thank all for responding
I am going to find some longer screws for this install.
The door is black and on order some I will have to see if the screws are black or under one od those plastic strips to hide the screws
Thanx again

5/4" X 6" trim

I hung a premium quality metal storm door on 5/4" Azek without any signs of issue now 7 or 8 years later. We use this door as the main daily entrance to the house.

I did make sure to attach the Azek to house framing very securely using 3" SS trim screws in staggered zig-zag column about every 18". I drove heads just below surface, spackled with MH Ready Patch, sanded smooth (took two rounds to eliminate all dimples where MH shrunk a bit), and painted with satin white exterior paint. Looks like factory fresh Azek. Obviously, I was using smooth Azek, not the wood grained stuff.

I used the factory trim and screws provided by storm door manufacturer to attach door to the Azek.
