installing a 200 amp breaker panel

I have gotten a couple of different responses when I asked about the required wire size to feed my new panel, I thought 2ga. was sufficient, but apparently NO WAY!!

You need much larger wire for 200A than #2. #2 aluminum won't even do for 100A. #2 copper will do 100A, but not 200A.

Depends on the application. #2AL is typical for a residential 100A service.

Why not give us some more detail. Is this a new service? Sub-panel?

From your post I get the impression you are not very experienced in electrical work. What is your level of expertise?

This is all well and good, but will confuse most DIYers and even give the wrong answers to many.

For example, NM cable has 90 deg conductors, but is limited to the 60 deg column. If you don't know that you'll read that chart ALL wrong.

when i did it, the inspector told me use 2/0 copper so thats what i used. but alot of the guys here know alot more than me.
