I bought the HF black tool cart a couple of weeks ago but noticed that this model doesnt have a handle on the lid like the red one does:

I am planning on just buying a cheap black drawer pull from Lowes and installing it. But i wanted to make sure of the best way to secure it. I have a feeling that just 2 sheet metal screws might warp/bend it over time? Any input on this? There is about a 1/2" of clearance between the lid and the frame so space shouldnt be a huge issue if i need some sort of backing. If anyone with the red cart can take a pic of how the handle is installed i'd appreciate it. My HF isnt that close to me to look myself...

The handle on the red one is simply installed with two screws. Two holes in the lid, machine screws go through the holes from the inside into the handle on the outside, no reinforcement at all. The lid is not that heavy plus the shocks help with lifting after a certain point. I would get a wide handle it will spread out the warpage if that is your concern. Never had a problem with mine.

If your talking about putting on something like this HANDLE Then all you would need to do is drill the holes in the lid and then use the provided screws to attach it. They are not needed to be torqued down crazy tight so I wouldn't see a need to put washers or anything on them. This is how it is done on the red cart also.

That is exactly what I was talking about, most handles you buy for cabinets have screws that thread into the handle from the inside of the drawer. Should have looked for a simple picture for my description.

Here's one I just installed. It's an old shifter linkage that I sanded the peeling chrome off of and cleaned up. 2 carriage bolts polished at home, two short pieces of tubing (for stand offs), lock washers and nuts. I've seen a lot of wrenches that were drilled and installed like this as well.

I just responded to another thread about this same thing. I put on a wire handle where my Husky box's top lid didn't have a handle. I epoxied on not too big fender washers on the outside and as big of fender washers that would fit on the inside.
