Installing a Post Lamp

To satisfy my lighted entry requirement I plan to install a post lamp outside my north entry but have never done an outdoor install of any kind.

I plan to run 14/2 UF to the light from the extra conduit I had installed when the floor was poured although I will not run the wire in conduit once I get through what currently comes out. The current conduit sits 24" below grade so I should be good there.

I just want to install the light now to pass the inspection because next spring my wife and I plant to do a little landscaping in the front of the shop and the light may get moved a little one way or another depending on how things work out so we wanted to avoid using concrete until we had final placement figured out.

Anyway I had planed to just set it in gravel. Does code say anything about what the fixture needs to be set in? The wire will run up the pole and connect to the light at the top of the pole so no connections below grade.

Will this be acceptable or do I need to sit on my electric permit until next spring?

Do you need a permit for something that simple? I'm replacing my post light and certainly don't plan on asking anyone.

Im doing all new electrical for my new shop so I need a lighted entry per code. Since its all new I needed a permit, if i was just replacing I wouldnt worry about it.
