I have a single car garage with a single man door that is outward swing style to save interior room. I have found on CL an ADA prehung exterior door/frame package at a great price.

Any special tricks to hang this style of door? I have read the other threads on GJ about hanging prehung exterior doors and watched some YouTube vidoes.

The door size is exactly the same size I would replace. The door has exterior trim already mounted.

Any thought or suggestions?

Thanks in advance

ADA shouldn't matter for door install, ADA requires minimum opening, door set should be a lever type and door swing.
If it's a wood jamb and had the correct swing it should be easy, some of the metal jambs on commercial doors get a little tricky.

Yes brick garage with a rough opening now I think~35". Right now the existing door there is a 2x4 on one side and a 2x4 and 1x4 (thick) on the hinge side. No special ADA harware is needed since it just being used as an entry door.

Anything anyone else can add about the installation please post.

I am uninformed about ADA doors but have a question. If the existing door is the same size as the ADA door, why change it? What do you gain? What is the difference between an exterior ADA door and a standard exterior door?

The existing door is starting to show its age. Prior to building a small roof at the doorway this past fall it was exposed to the north and all the weather and elements. A regular prehung door off the shelf from the big box stores are inward swinging doors. A 10x20 garage built around 1939 with a vehicle inside does not leave much room. In my area an outward swinging door was a common design element to save interior room, whether it was a secondary door or just think like a utility room.

Plus ADA door is new and a CL price of roughly half the price of a new door .

Exactly as stated above, an ADA door will have a lever handleset, proper width, and a approved threshold so a wheelchair can easily roll over it.

The reason exterior doors swing in, is so the hinge pins are not exposed. A thief can simply pull the hinge pins and remove the door.:dunno:

ADA doors should have flat threshold of 1/2" or less. If the door will get a lot of rain or snow that is something to consider.

Recently I converted a standard pre-hung door to ADA for a customer by installing a flat threshold. For the botton seal I used one of these. It's adjustable and has a hood to deflect water.

Only bringing it up because you may need to use one.

Thanks, since you have installed is the installation process pretty straight forward similar to regular inswing door? Just making sure there won't be any hidden surprises.
Thanks for the link to the threshold sweep/guard.

The door I installed was a regular pre-hung door and I cut the jamb and fitted the ADA threshold.
