I have a cement block garage that I recently ran a natural gas line too. I also just bought a used down flow furnace. I’m hoping to be able to do some work/projects in the garage in cold weather. I’m looking for suggestions on how to hook up furnace since warm air comes out bottom. I’m not sure how to build a base to raise up so the heated air can flow out from the bottom. I already have a brick chimney in garage with outlet for the vent pipe to go in. I figure the base would rest on the cement floor.

Check out your local Menards. They have a good selection of duct work including plenum and transitions. You will want to set the box on bricks to keep it off of the concrete floor.

Well if it was me I would raise it up high enough to put a plenum with grills right below the furnace, your could also mount grills on side. As far as the return do the same thing except use a return air filter grill.

check with a local tin shop to build you a heavier gauge plenum to better support the furnace. If you can locate grills with adjustable horizontal and vertical louvers it will help greatly air distribution. Best to check on grills first as plenum can always be made over size. What size is your garage and is it insulated ?
