Can you install Ghost-shield 8510 without doing a densifier 4510. If not what is the average wait time between the densifier and the 8510. I have approx 4 days will this work. Concrete is new and has been cured for over 28 days.

Yes, you can apply GhostShield 8510 without a densifier, however, you may use a lot more product than what you would have if you used a densifier. 8510 has a very small molecular structure and can penetrate deep into the many pores of concrete. The densifier helps to fill these pores as well as strengthen the concrete at the surface at the same time. As a result, the 8510 doesn't penetrate as deep and is more concentrated near the surface as it should be for the best performance.

If you use a densifier it's best to wait 7 days before application of 8510. Densifiers react with the concrete and can take up to a week for them to go through this process.

Yes... No... Absolutely

Yes, people install 8510 without the densifier. Given the cost of the densifier relative to the cost of the 8510, I likely would not do this on my own floor. Generally speaking we see much better coverage when the densifier is used and you end up saving money.

If a densifier has already been used as part of the installation of a power troweled or other slab, I absolutely would do 8510 without a densifier.

We suggest 7 days in between

Hi,
Not using the densifier will cause you to use more of the 8510, and end up costing more. We always suggest the use of the densifier first, waiting about a week, and then applying the 8510.

I'm also preparing to seal a new slab with 8510, I've waited a few months, and I'd like to get the best oil protection and low maintenance sealer. I've already purchased the 8510, so outside of using less product, are there other benefits to using the densifier?

Two more questions, can I add color to the ghostshield 8510, and will the finish have some shine to it?

Hi
Ghostshield cannot be colored, you can stain your floor first with a concrete floor stain, then wash well any residual stain, and then treat with the Ghostshield.

Ghostshield since it is penetrating will not leave any surface shine or change the surface at all. Once it's cured you won't know it was applied.

If you want a shine, a better choice would be a coat of our SPGX clear over a stained floor. Thank you very much.

Justin,

I've done both a densifier and the 8510 and am happy so far, but am thinking I'd like something with a bit more surface sealing to give me more time after a Exon Valdez type occurrence and to possibly help mitigate tire marks. My floor is very smooth but polished. Would a product like this offer any additional protection or be worthwhile? Any other suggestions?

8510 has amazing resistance to oil. HD40 is an great product and Scotty does a great job supporting it. Normally I would not comment on someone else's product, but in this specific case, I don't think he would mind.

You have a hydrophobic floor. I do not believe it is possible to install this over 8510.

My post should have read "not polished".

Ok, so nothing will stick. I'm still getting some staining from things like wood sap(construction green wood). Would burnishing the surface help with the porosity or does this indicate I need more 8510? I did as instructed with 2 wet coats of 8510. Had a truck leave a spot and it did not really repel much.

If you could email me some pics [email protected] I would like to take a look and get the manufacturer involved. Please include your full name and phone number

Update on previous post, i've gone ahead with an acid stain of the concrete, and followed up with the ghostshield, as i'd already purchased the product. Will a wax bring out the shine in the finished floor? it looked great wet, now, not so much.

Justin,
Sorry for not replying to your request. Our busy time of the year hit and is just now slowing down. I re-looked at the spots in question and they turned out to be where the dipwad installing the sprinkler system just let the flux and solder drop onto the concrete and never bothered cleaning up his droppings. This was PRIOR to my installing the Ghostshield,so I doubt there is anything short of mechanical abrasion that can remove these. In the grand scheme of things, I have way more to worry about than these rather small marks.

I'll still take some pictures of my other areas of concern and ship them off to you. Thanks for your input.
