I am getting ready to install a Mr Heater 45K BTU garage heater. I would like to vent this out the side wall (horizontally) as it would be a much shorter run and a little easier than getting in the attic and drilling a hole in the roof. My only concern is backdrafting. Anyone here side vent a unit like? If so, are you having any backdraft issues?

That is fine for as long as you follow the proper codes and guidlines for horizontal venting. You should try to avoid a wall that see's prevailing winds and/or you could install a high wind termination cap. Backdraft can be a problem and can/may shut the heater down.

I'm going on my third heating season with my 75K BTU Mr. Heater unit. Mine is horizontally vented; I've never has any problem with back drafts.
