About a month or two ago a guy asked the same thing. Half said it would work, half said it will freeze up in winter. I believe the guy did it anyways and reported back that it is operating fine?
I will warn you though that I run a 50k big maxx and it consumes about a gallon a day keeping a temp around 47 degrees running 24/7.

I have run my 80k on single 100 lb tanks. No issues. Same climate. If you run the heater non stop, you might freeze up the tank. But, realistically, the heater usually only runs for short spurts so the tank temp doesn't drop enough to freeze up. A much colder climate would cause quicker freeze up though.

But, get a 120 or 250 gallon tank as soon as possible. I'm currently running mine off a 120 gallon tank.
