Installing porch rail

I have a man door into my garage that has a large concrete step off the back side. It's probably a 3' drop so I'm going to put a porch rail on two sides.

What is the best recommendation of how far from the edge to drill the concrete? I don't want it to crack long term. Thanks.

Since you have the room, drill into the sides about 4" down and you'll be golden. Since your slab is essentially at the edge of the door, I doubt top mount will serve you well.

I'd agree with the 4" guideline from any concrete edge.
