Installing race deck over gravel

I am building a post frame garage and looking for an alternative to poring a concrete pad. I found an old post on here that said you can put down heavy duty landscape fabric over packed gravel and install race deck tiles over it. I’m curious if anyone else has done this? Just curious how well this would work and how it would hold up over time.

We have had several customers do this and here is what we learned - You really need to compact the gravel properly, then use the synthetic fabric over the compacted base. Another tip was to create a grid using with either treated lumber or plastic grates to keep the gravel from moving

Thanks for the reply. So making a grid than cover with the gravel?
Have you head how this type of installation has held up over time?

If the gravel base is done correctly, it will last years... the good news is with RaceDeck, you can remove and repack base if needed

It does depend somewhat on what it under the gravel. NO ORGANIC MATTER. the gravel must be "sharp", no round/river rock.

You might want to consider a final 2"-4" of "stone dust" after the gravel is compacted and then compact again.

Just curious - what's the price difference between pouring the concrete and buying the race deck tiles taking into account the ultimate longevity and convenience between the two?

What size building are you looking at? Seems like a look of work to me... and I'm not sure of the cost savings. Someone could run the numbers...

For me I would pour concrete and come back when I have the time and cash to install Racedeck.

I used to work with/deal with the road bases that were installed under a grass paver roadway/accessway.

We always specified 95-98% compaction. Basically if you don't want that base to moved that is where you need to get to. Once you are there you have a strong and flat base that is nearly as good as a poured concrete base (but the compacted base will be thicker)

I have never tried it but I have always wondered if you were to add concrete mix in and then after compaction you were to wet the base down, how effectively it would bind that base together
