Installing TLPPC

Planning on putting down my TLPPC floor sealer this weekend. I want to mop the floor before I apply it, as it has had a month of muddy footprints, kids on scooters, leaves, bird droppings and other crud built up on it. It's a virgin slab, poured 32 days ago. How long should I wait before I apply the sealer after mopping? I want the floor to be dry, obviously, but I would be worried that any moisture still in the slab would affect the coating.

Alternately, I could skip the mop step and just give the floor a very thorough sweeping and vacuuming, and be done with it?

If the floor is dirty clean it and clean it well, but give the concrete time to dry. Not hours... Days.... Here it's usually 2-3

Jon, how many coats are you doing, and on what size slab? I'm sure I'm not the only one who will want to see your results when you get done!

Well I put the first coat on about an hour ago. Not too happy with the coverage but I think it's my own fault, I kept having to adjust the sprayer so I think that some areas got more than others. It's pretty heavily mottled. On the other hand, the second coat should be able to make up for it a bit, so I should be fine. I'll take pictures after I have the second coat on. I did not mop the floor before I sprayed, but I did sweep several times with a new pushbroom and then vacuumed all the corners.

Typically, everyone tells us we underestimate the coverage on this product so I was a little surprised to see this post. Then I read about the sprayer issues and your comments that it is 'heavily mottled'. I am a little concerned that it is entirely to thick on the first coat, which will lead to issues. Lets chat when you get a chance

Justin, it's actually way too thin on the first coat, in about half of the garage. It's not mottling so much as striping, where there was simply insufficient coverage. I'm going to put down my second coat this afternoon around 4 pm my time, which will have given the first coat 24 hours to dry. I'm going to do exactly the reverse of Day 1, going heavy in the striped areas and light on the well-covered areas, and hope it evens itself out. My only concern is that the first coat won't allow the second coat to penetrate in the striped areas and I will have a mess.

As for coverage, I put two gallons in a brand-new sprayer and was left with a couple of ounces at the end. Slab area is right at 800 square feet.

OK. So lets start at the beginning here. This is a penetrating sealer that is designed to penetrate into the concrete. The first coat, especially is going to penetrate.

Because it is clear, it absorbs differently in different garages and highlights what is there. Different parts of concrete absorb it differently. It tends to even out a lot as it dries, but every floor is different.

Waiting 24 hours is a major mistake. Please see the guidelines on the site. Keep a nice even consistent spray. Don't try and alter the coverage. Keep a nice consistent spray through the whole area.

Second application finishes the seal and gives some luster to the floor. 3rd coat starts to build gloss. I am going to try and find some wet and dry pics for you. We are in the middle of a move still and everything is not up and running

Well, after not looking at the floor for 24 hours, I discovered that my before and after looked just like yours. It evened out a LOT overnight. I just applied the second coat and the whole floor was a lot more even looking and developed the typical "wet look" which tells me that it's still absorbing the product. I am a lot less concerned than I was last night.

I'm going to take a couple of photos right now before it dries and take some more tomorrow.
