I plan on doing a series of wordless workshops; things where pictures explain themselves so words are not needed. Below is my first. Some will be additions to prior ones, like the suction fan and filter I'll be adding to this one. I have a dozen or so ready to go, I'll try put up a couple a month or so.:bounce:

I've painted professionally for over 40 years and never thought of doing that... Of course I usually have a paint booth at my disposal, but that is pretty cool.

you almost have a painted kiss for a KISS solution, pretty sharp. The real test is if it ends up in Jack Olsen's uber efficient garage :)

You want a sheet back with 20x20 hole for filter with box dan in back sucking thru. A top on the box and some facia around the front to reduce the area a bit. A bit like this booth for welding but the fan is overhead.

you cant see it in the pic but there is a filter in the top of the box.

Any ideas on how to achieve this for a large booth like for a car to fit in?

It would still work, just be a pain for airflow requirements. Of course I am pulling all this out of my ***, I have never used a spray booth.

Good ideas.

Caution with box fans and paint fumes - the right (wrong) air to paint mixture and it will ignite. :shocking:

You want the motor and any source of ignition, out of the air path. ;)

That's what I was thinking.
Should you use an explosion proof motor?

if the motor is in the exhaust stream, it should be. if you have a fan in the exhaust stream (belt driven), it should be spark resistant. You should look for 100+ ft per minute at the filter bank. Furnace filters work well. I use 16x25.

My "booth" is a little larger, but I can spray larger things (not a car, but larger things).

The plenum is nothing more than an air tight box. I use an explosion proof shuttered exhaust fan. I don't spray every day, but the bench booth I created keeps the rest of the shop clean.

Mine is in my parts washer / blast cabinet / paint closet. It seconds for a fume exhaust when using the parts washer or blast cabinet.
