Have been utilizing sendcutsend lately for different fun projects and its got me wondering what other great websites are out there that offer some kind of instant-quote type of manufacturing options, especially smaller scale.

I know of Oshcut, SCS, Xometry and thats about it; what other sites do you guys recommend?

I use xomety at work from time to time, seems to be decent so far. We have also used protolabs, I think they have great capabilities but my understanding is they are pretty pricey.

I am another Protolabs and Xometry user. Also Fictiv. There are a bunch more out there, some with different processes or industry focus. If you look at the raw material vendor websites for some of the processes you'll see some remarkable options but none of the bureaus carry them all. So, if you want material 'X', or finishing process 'Y' (Tumble polishing or bead-blasting of your SLS parts?) you have to go on safari...

When folks say 'they're expensive' I always wonder 'compared to what?' Other than FDM most of the other processes are really expensive to own and to operate, so I always felt like getting parts from any of the bureaus was a relative bargain. I have also found some pretty wild price swings, 2X+, from company to company for the same part. I don't know if that's a dynamic thing related to excess capacity or what, but now I always cross-shop before I buy.

Edit: I have used Xometry for sheet metal several times and had variable results. My understanding is that Xometry acts as a broker and places the work wherever there is capacity among their approved vendors. That means you are always dealing with different people/shops. Like 3D printing though, having all the sheet metal tools in-house would be cost prohibitive for the few times a year I need parts for a project, so I count Xometrys cost and hassle as a relative bargain. No doubt I could find a local resource, but then the process of placing the order, making multiple calls and emails, etc, is enough to keep me pointed at places like Xometry. For bigger all-sheet metal projects or short pre-production runs then it is worth working with a local dedicated sheet metal shop.

I use protolabs and Xometry at work also.

They are "fast" but not that fast. Usually 3 days turn around AFTER they accept/acknowledge your PO, which can be a additional day or two. They are expensive, at least for the 3d printing but you pay that for not having to deal with the hassle of cleaning the parts or removing the support material. The molds are parts a cheap and they usually pretty good with staying on the timelines with those but the parts reflect the prices.

Their sheet metal through Rapid isn't very fast usually 2-3 weeks even with expedite. I don't do much with their cnc.

We just bought some ProJet's at work for 3d printing. Hopefully use protolabs less. We can have parts printed same day now, but everyone complains about the cleanup and removing of the support material.

I guess protolabs is a tradeoff if you dont want to spend the money on your own machine, or deal with cleaning your own parts.

I have used Alro Steel for laser cutting, they say they can do up to 1" thick, I had 3/4" thick plates cut.

I thought it was going to be super expensive but it was very reasonable I thought.

We use Protomold frequently for work, their injection mold services are very nice for prototype/proof of concept type runs prior to cutting a $50k multi cavity die but not something the garage user is likely going to do.

3d printing we use them some, primarily for printing materials with specific physical properties we don't have capability to do on our in house machines. The ease of doing business and good turn around are big drivers for us

Have also used Xometry for some personal stuff, good experience so far. Haven't ordered anything from SendCutSend but have quoted some and that portion was very seamless....just haven't progressed in those projects far enough yet to buy those parts.

Front Panel Express is great for front panels for electronics. I’ve had three panels made for electronics projects (an amplifier, pre-amplifier, and regulated variable DC power supply). It really takes the projects up a notch and makes them look professional.

Thanks for mentioning Oshcut, I just ordered a silhouette of a hawk cut from 1/4" Corten steel for what I felt was a very reasonable price.

We have had nothing but issues from Protolabs and Xometry. You pay a premium for quick turn and they always miss their delivery estimates significantly, so what the hell did we pay a premium for? It's sad because back before Rapid was purchased by Protolabs they were a great company.

Also, Xometry doesn't stand behind the parts that their subcontractors make. Whenever there are quality control issues they give you the run around.
