My brother just built a 30x40 pole building and wants to insulate it, what is the best way to do this?

I studded mine out 16on center insulated and drywalled, stapled 6in. batts between the joists and drywalled . Ceiling is not finished being drywalled yet. A tremendous difference in retaining heat in the winter and keeping it cool in the summer.

Here is what I did on my 40 x 50 shop.
I put the reflective aluminum on all my walls and roof.
Built walls and ceiling joist on 24" centers.
used R11 for the walls so I will have mulitple air gaps between the foil and the steel walls, and between foil and insulation.
I will use the celluose blow-in for the ceiling.
Everything will be drywalled.

I got a bid from my builder to finish the walls & ceiling and the way they do it is to put up 24" ceiling joist, then install steel panels.
On the walls they would use 20' 2 x 4's spanning 3 of the upright post and nail to the outside of the post and also on 24" centers, then they would fill the cavity with 10' wide insulation, then install steel panels over that.

It was an expensive option but it would have been done in a week instead of taking months like it is taking me to finsih my shop.

I am really sold on the foil stuff, it cut the heat coming in from the steel siding in the summer to almost nothing.

Pics below on my shop build link.

I looked at some of your pics. Nice place. I wanted to coment on your heater though. I also have a propane radiant heater. You may want to vent it intake side to the outside. It will reduce the dirt into the intake an prevent fumes from aerosols etc to be sucked in.

That will be my project for this weekend along with finishing the insulation and to start hanging drywall on the walls. I did get the intake kit with the heater.

I studded in between the posts of my pole barn. For insulation, I had the walls sprayed with Icyene (sp?) foam. Worked great because it filled in all those strange knooks & crannies and sealed every air gap......something fiberglass can't do.
For the ceiling, I had loose fill shot in on top of the drywall..

Did you guys put foil under roof tin and then drop the ceiling? Has anyone used tin as the drop ceiling material? Wondering if anything different has to be done with vapor barriers ect.

I used a 1" thick styrofoam board 4x8 for $21.00 ea. tin foil on outside and white plastic coating on the face side ,tape for the seams and white plastic washers with white drywall tipped screws, creates a finished white surface with a supposedly R value of 40. I will cover that with interior "tin" when the funds allow.
I got the foam board from the pole building people. But for now this is a good looking finished insulated ceiling in 1 step!

For the walls (Stage 1) I just got done putting 1 1/2" styrofoam between the perlings along my walls. (Stage 2) Studding out even with the posts, then blowing celluose or using fiberglass, I figured this way no cellulose or fiberglass would contact the metal siding (condensation issues). So when i'm done with the walls i'll have r-25.

For the ceiling (stage 1) I'm putting 3/4" styrofoam all the way agaist the metal roof tin. I plan on dropping the ceiling, but the guy that built mine said that if there isn't anything under the roof tin, that it would build up water droplets and drip on your insulation on the drop ceiling. (Stage 2) Drop the ceiling, i'm using old galvanized tin that came off of an old barn on the farm. After that is dropped i'll blow in cellulose. r-30 or r-40.
