Hi, we live in a WWII era house in Kansas. There is a storage 'closet' tacked onto the outside of the house with no entry into the house. Square footage of ~3500. About 82" tall. It's against the house on the south side and blocked by the garage on the north side. So I really only need to insulate the West and East walls, and the ceiling. There is vinyl siding on the outside. This is a house that has been in our family for many years and usually used as a rental.
I'm trying and failing to find out how to insulate only to prevent any cleaning products or equipment from freezing in normal lows. We usually only dip to the 20's or teens in winter unless we are in a artic blast. I can move things or otherwise deal if that is the case. We are zone 4 on some charts I have found?
Ideally it would be foam board since it is easy to handle, cut, and place. If necessary I can do faced fiberglass but, I hate dealing with it. I'm wondering if I'm needing to double up on panels to get enough thickness? Or, can I get away with just a single board between each stud. Do I need to go with the polyiso, extruded polystyrene, or expanded polystyrene? Cost is also a factor. Thank you!
