Almost ready for blown in insulation in my garage. I have a Big Maxx heater(already inspected). I have a 4" vertical venting system. I put a 6" pipe around my 4" to act as a barrier to keep my 1" air space for combustibles. I insulated up to the 6" pjpe with the green Roxul insulation(fire retardent). I cut my vapour barrier back from the b vent pipe 1". I plan on using the blown in for the rest of the insulation in my ceiling. Anybody have any issues with this method?

Thanks.

Mine is done just like you describe, but I also capped the top of the outer barrier pipe to keep blown insulation from going down in there and filling it up.

It worked out well, and there are no issues.

Looks like cellulose to me.

Jevoy: What you describe is common practice and tends to work well. Just make sure you take steps to keep it centered.

Steevo. What was the make of your cellulose?

I don't have a clue.
I hired it done through a local building materials place that I had used to do the fiberglass bats in my walls.

I just told them I wanted R60 in the ceiling, and they calculated that would take 18" of what they used, so that is what I got.
