Since I found this site I have been cleaning up and out junk from my smaller shop to get it spiffed up and be able to show it off :} . I have a single car attached garage that is my shop and a double car oversized shop that I also have some larger tools and such in ( Oxy / Actyl , Mig , Anvil, Compressor ) the big shop will take a while to get set as it needs a lot. Though it will always be the main garage where I park etc so it is not really going to ever be just a shop.
The attached garage (Shop)is dry walled on the house side and ceiling and rear wall, however the out side wall and front wall are are not and currently only the outside wall is insulated. I will be dry walling it and want to dry wall the front wall however, my dilema is this side closest to the house has my service panel in it. It is not insulated and I want to but I want to do it the right way. I have searched here on the redo's , builds etc and no one seems to address how to insulate around the box and all the wiring going in and out. I did check out some stuff on OC and JM sites again no clear guidance. Several Youtube videos show insulating a garage but none had the house service panel in it. I want to do it safetly and correctly I already have the required space marked off by code (2' Away Here) so I do not put cabinets etc to close etc. Even in the code books near as I can tell are mute about using insulation around the service panel. Anyone have thoughts on it any electricians perhaps ???
There are only two other projects I have to do before dry walling is adding some more outlets that I know how to do and have open breakers on the panel for them.
The other one is I have my compressor out in the big garage to keep the noise down , currently when I need air I just run a line from one to the hardlines I put in the shop. I want to make a permenant connection but it would require about 8 foot of pipe between the garages to connect in. I am concerned about moisture build up in the pipe even with a drip loop running back like you run a NG line and air water seperators on both ends. Some of my air tools are high speed IE in excess of 15k rpms and definately do not like moisture getting into the motor. So either I come out the big garage and down below grade across and but up and in or I come out high on the big garage wall and across and just insulate the pipe going a across. Has anyone run an air feed line from one building to another building ? How much moisture does it build below grade ? Above grade? I can post picts later if need be currently lol I am hard at work....
