Insulating attic stairs

Anyone have a practical DIY suggestion for insulating my pull down stairs? I know the manufacturer offers a kit of some kind, but I wondering if I can put something together that is just as practical if not more so. My thinking so far is some sort of quilt or blanket with an insulation backing that I can pull over the opening before I push up the stairs...something with a little extra material so the folded stairs don't distend the "blanket" too much. Other ideas?

I made a styrofoam box which is glued together. (builders foam & glue made for it)

I lift it out of the way when I go in the attic.

Cheap and easy to make.

Only mod I had to make was a notch for the hinges.

Box in the attic part with plywood to put the top about 3-4 inches above the top of the stairs when folded. Then, make a couple of fitted foam sheets sized to fit snugly in the opening. Then, close the stairs.

Just make a foam coffin to go over the stairs. Make sure when you measure ( have someone in attic to measure the travel arc of the stairs ) opening and closing yeild a differnt measurement then at rest.
