I braze a lot of little trinkets with oxy-acetylene. Usually I prop them up for tacking on my steel welding table but sometimes this really ***** the heat out of the parts in contact with the table; it's like an infinite heatsink. I tried using squares of ceramic tile as surfaces which are really cheap and also flat and they work great for brazing surfaces right up to the point they explode if they get too hot.
Is there an asbestos-like material for this that is insulating, but won't break like ceramic tile?
