Insulating corrugated steel doors

I have a 32X54 shop with 12' walls, and two 10' corrugated roll up doors. Is there a spray on product that I could apply to the doors to cut down on the radiated heat? The doors get around 7 hours of direct sun in the summer, and it is almost unbearable to be anywhere near the doors due to the heat. The product would need to be thin enough as to not interfere with the door operation, and probably a sprat on application. Thanks in advance, John

I can't imagine a non paint solution (on the outside) that wouldn't be a problem with the way it "winds up" and even paint might interfere.
Could you build an awning or "eyebrow" above the door providing shade not to mention the other weather benefits?

Eliminating the direct sun would be a great idea. Challenging to cover all seven hours of exposure (probably), but maybe could be oriented to block it during a few of the hottest hours.. :dunno:

No one method may be enough. But throw 2 or 3 methods at it and may end up with something that works pretty good.

Heat transfer ... heat will transfer or be driven toward a "cooler" medium via three methods... conduction, convection, and radiation.
Right now, direct sun heating, radiation heating, is conducted via the metal roll-up doors, and are both convected and conducted to the inside of your garage.

Sort of changing out your roll-up doors with panel-insulated ones, I would build "temporary" outside insulated panel walls that are clad to protect the insulation and framing materials.
1/4 plywood for the exterior side with 1 x 2 frames infilled with rigid insulation. To make it more manageable, build these panels vertically at 10 feet but with hinges or something to keep the separate panels together. Adding a perimeter gasket to the panels will stop convection heat transfer.
The insulated panels and the in-filled air gap it makes with the roll-up doors will mitigate the heat transfer tremendously.

Of course, the above would be a PITA if you need to constantly use your roll-up doors.

I am thinking of the Bluetex insulation for our garage/shop roll up doors also
I used some leftover bluetex I had from doing my whole shop with it and double sided 3m tape, works great, dropped surface temp on inside of doors by 30F when it was around 100F out.

Here’s what I did. I framed out the garage door and installed metal siding on the frame. This absorbs the heat from the sun and doesn’t allow it to radiate through the garage door.
With a IR thermometer, I have a 24° temperature difference and just about zero radiant heat coming through.

During fall and winter I’ll take this off and store it in the back of the shed.

I’m also working/experimenting on this. Don’t mind the shtty concept so far lol.
It’s just temporary, but the door gets full sun from 1pm-7pm. These moving blankets are so thick that the heat does not come through them.
I basically have a big curtain that I can open and close whenever I want.
Still experimenting with it.
