Insulating garage ceiling/bedroom floor

We have a large bedroom over our garage. That bedroom is alway cold and the garage is always relatively warm in the winter (55 degrees in the winter/70 in the summer).

This is because the garage ceiling is not insulated and the heating and ac from the bedroom above it is leaking into the garage.

I know I could rip out the garage ceiling, insulate and then replace the ceiling.

Is there another option? Maybe blowing insulation through holes in the ceiling?

If so, what about plumbing or wiring that is likely in the ceiling? Could it be blown right over it?

thanks all.

1) where are you

2) we do a driil & fill using ProPink L77 fiberglass from Owens Corning. Depending on the cavity space its probably under $3 sq ft installed.

3) spray foam would be the ultimate if you are going to the trouble and expense of taking out the drywall

I am in Northern Virginia...I hate to have to dismantle my garage to redo the entire ceiling drywall--that would cost a ton!

Pull the drywall and do it right. Some tyvek to keep out airflow and you will be happy. You could put 4" of hi density foam onto the sheetrock and lower the ceiling

Blow in insulation as mentioned above.
Caulk and seal all cracks.
If needed, add a 1 1/2" or 2" layer of rigid foam insulation to the ceiling of the garage.
But, before that, I would check all the losses from the bedroom envelope.

We did this to a 10 yr old house in Chicago area. Had a very cold master suite.
Filling the void between the garage ceiling and the master floor raised the bathroom tile temperature from 55 degrees to 68 degrees about 6 hours later.

Drilling and filling would be about the easiest method and probably the cheapest too.

I think the code here is spray foam as it has to be absolutely air tight between the two. Had a boss's land lord die in his bedroom one night years ago and the only thing they found was that his car was out of fuel. No keys in the ign, They think that the remote car starter activated some how and he died of CO poisoning. Best do it right

Where are you located with a code like that?
