Insulating Garage Door after AC Install

Guys, I had a mini split installed in my garage. I also had the walls opened up and insulated. The last thing in the garage door which gets full on Arizona sun.

I put those pre-cut panels from Home Depot in the door which did nothing to stop the heat transferring from the door into the garage.

Have you found another approch.

Thank you!

I used the 4x8'x1.5" foil backed foam sheets, and cut them to size. They were a pretty tight fit in door. While I don't have any before/after measurements, I think that this helped. But both my doors face north, and the Arizona sun doesn't shine directly on them. If you have a south or west exposure for the door, then you would likely need to face the foil towards the door, and make sure you have an air gap between the door and the foil to deal with radiant heat. I assume you have a steel door - I'm not sure what you would do with a wood door.

Good luck!

Foil of some sort (foil backed polyiso or bubbles or just mylar sheet) and air gap on one side or the other. Not necessary to have air gaps on both sides. This will take advantage of aluminums high reflectance or low emissivity. Both on the order of 97%. Good stuff. But a min 3/4 air gap is essential. Physics and stuff.

mostly the insulation for garage doors is not all that much but it does make a difference. Make sure the door is painted in a light color because if it is a dark color it is just collecting heat for you.

Foil bubble wrap helped mine a lot, I doubled it up and it is screwed right over the seams and all. It flexes fine for over two years and is attached with self tapping screws.
