Insulating Linesets

What is the proper/best way to insulate linesets exposed to the weather.
Was just working on a lineset cover that got blown away during Sandy...
The 3 linesets inside the *covers* were still pretty new


I know up on the roof, where we have our units, one area is just bare copper and another is just showing signs of weathering.

I have seen some linesets covered in white. Not sure if this is for aethetic purposes *versus ducts* or is just plain 'old black foam the most common way of having linesets *exposed* to the elements.

I wrap mine with aluminum foil tape to fend off UV. It also acts as a radiant heat barrier (for whatever that's worth). The better insulations have better UV resistance and will live longer without protection.

You can buy armorflex in Home Depot. I'm pretty sure it's UV resistant and it's a good quality insulation.

Both the "Rubatex" and "Armorflex" 1/2inch wall are fine. The white stuff is a brush on coating to protect it from the elements. I'm sure you could do the same thing with an exterior latex paint. You want all the copper insulated.

I have to measure....I know Home Burrito has the Armacell, but probably not the correct ID for the 2 sets of copper in there. One is a hair bigger than the other but I'm pretty sure smaller than 1/2"...



Actually the *white* seems to be stock with the foam. From afar, it looks like a vinyl jacket of some sort but I presume it was also for *decorative* purposes as there is no duct covers. Sorta like a poor mans version of making it blend with the wall.
