I am going to insulate my detached garage. Just wondering what would be the best options on R values and type. It is a 24x24 with bonus room above, 2x4 studs 16"OC with TJI joists 16"OC as well. The exterior is complete with vinyl siding on the 3 side and brick veneer on the front. It was wrapped with a vapor barrier prior to siding. I spend a little time in there year round(Central NC), it is not cooled/heated, but have plans to do that later on. Also trying to watch my cost and will be doing it myself as well as putting up sheetrock in the future.

with 2x4 walls foam will give you the best r value but its expensive...i think with batts you can only achieve an r 15 rating in 2x4 walls. id do blown in in the attic depending on how the roof/ceiling is constructed

I think you going to use the foam for the smaller areas. However I not familiar with the climate of NC especially Central but if you not there very often how effective would a space heater be.

im in eastern VA, i rolled 4inch fiberglass in the walls, and 6 inches in the ceiling(even though the ceiling is 2x4). effing hate insulation. if i go the rest of my life without messing with the stuff, id die a happy man.
