Insulating the Garage Ceiling?

I live in Minnesota, and I'd like to be able to keep what little heat there is inside my garage, especially in winter.

Has anyone insulated up above their garage ceiling? My garage has finished & insulated walls and a finished (but not insulated) ceiling.

I can get up there with a ladder and crawl around. It is a 3 car garage.

What's the best way to insulate up there?

A layer of blow in insulation (Lowes\Depot rents the equip) between the joists followed by some R25 attic blanket across the joists. Will cost ya a bit but your Garage will stay nice and toasty. Make sure you have enough soffit and or ridge venting so that condensation does not build up in the attic.

Wile's got the plan. That's what I'd do. You definetely want to insulate your ceiling. Also, if your garage uses a ridge vent with soffit vents, make sure to put in the "baffles" that prevent the insulation from blocking up your soffit vents.

Easy, but somewhat messy, diy project. You really need 2 people though, one to feed the machine, the other to blow it in. The free machine Lowes gives you works great. I did mine to R38.
