I have a walk up room over my garage that i’ve Split 60/40. The larger side will be the Man/Game room. There is a door between the two rooms is solid core. The man side is insulated and heated/cooled but the other side for storage is not
Winter cold and hot humid summer. How do I insulate the whole door not just the perimeter moldings? I’d like to apply a foam insulating board on the cold side but how will the door swing into the room if the insulation is tight to the jambs. I’ve got r13 between the rooms would like to insulate this door which is 3/0x6/8 standard size to same as the partition wall. I don’t care what it looks like on the storage side. Thanks

Both ideas above seem feasible.

Also, for what it's worth.... I have a barn with each space/floor having a bunch of different levels of insulation ranging from almost 0 R-value to lots-of-R value.

I heat most of the spaces, including the rec room (aka man cave area), enough to keep things from freezing and then bump the heat up when I use the spaces. In the summer, I do the opposite.. cooling enough to keep humidity down, and then cooling more when I'm in the space.

Throughout the building I have a bunch of scenarios where doors are my weak point... I found that it was only impacting my monthly bill (given how I heat and cool as described above) by less than $10 per month.... And it just hasn't impacted my enjoyment of the space at all...

In other words, while improving the doors is "on the list", it's not that high on the list.

Your mileage (and room usage) may vary :)

Same - buy an insulated fiberglass exterior door. Shop your local Habitat store if you have one because lots of times the big boxes will donate display doors or other inventory when they do model change outs.
