So I'm starting to think up ideas of how to cost effectively insulate my building, starting with the walls.

I'm not really a big fan of the spray insulation, at least for the walls, I think it looks horrible, not to mention is expensive.

When we mounted my fuse panel this idea came to me, not sure if it's a good one, i'll leave that up to you.

I thought about just putting some ~R20 fiberglass against the wall and then mount the plywood flush with the purlings. It would also be nice as I could hang things from the wall easier.

Any input?

My building has the same construction so I'm interested in the responses as well.

I was thinking of 2" thick rigid foam, but don't plan to cover it.

I considered the rigid foam as well since I wouldn't have to cover it, but the R value is so low I really don't think it would do me much good as far as trying to heat/cool it.

Having 12' walls and 16' gable is going to prove challenging enough to efficiently heat/cool it haha, trying to get all the R value I can.

Agreed, but with only 2" of space (in mine) there aren't many options.

Rigid foam is a fire hazard too even with the fire retardants that are put in XPS. You should have a thermal barrier over foam.
