insulation for the ceiling

The Ceiling in the garage has 9 inch fiberglass and i'd like to add more. The beams are the manufactured ones so they are almost 4 inches wide. I think some type of blown in insulation would really help with the heating. What would you guys recommend to use for this?

Yup, blow in cellulose or fiberglass. I have 18" of blown cellulose in mine.

I just added 6" of rolled unfaced insulation to the trusses of my shop... then installed the sheeting.

I plan on going back up and blowing on a top layer above that. should be easy and done pretty quick to add a few more inches .

Other there getting up there and doing it, rolling unfaced insulation perpendicular to the first is quite easy and can be done fairly quick.

I've blown cellulose on top of fiberglass batts before and it worked out very well. I prefer cellulose. It's a better insulation for a lot of reasons but primarily you don't have to deal with the itch factor and it does a better job of blocking the flow of air through the insulation.

I agree totally. My youngest daughter has blown in cellulose in ceilings of her house and I had to climb up in her attic to install a bracket to hold a ceiling light. Biggest pain the neck I have had in quite some time. I was covered head to toe in cellulose dust and when you remove it from the area you need to have cleared so you can work, it tends to all fall right back down there. I much prefer fiberglass insulation, when you move it, it stays moved. When you put it back, it stays put.
