My neighbor came over last night and said his brother-in-law can get 100 sheets of 2" x 4'x15' sheets of this this foam insulated sheets for $15 a sheet. It has foil on both sides and has a r value of 13. They apparrently ordered too much of it at a worksite. They will load it up and bring it over Saturday morning if I'm interested. So I need a quick tutor session on Foam insulation.

I recently build a 40x72 polebarn with a 12 ceiling. Walls have 6x6 posts, 6 foot apart. We live in Michigan and planned to eventually insulate and keep the garage at about 45 degrees, then crank up the heat when I go out there to work on the snowmobiles, etc.

A few questions. Would this be a good insulation for the walls? How much is this stuff worth? He said he thought it cost them $45 a sheet.

If it's good to use how would you suggest finishing the inside using drywall? My quick thought, buy 1 1/2" sheets to put behind the posts to take up the gap. Then lay a sheet of the 2 inch foam. Seal joints with tape, build a 2x4 wall with 24" centers. I could then cut put a second layer of the foam board inbetween the 2x4's, cover with a vapor barrier, then sheetrock. Am I on the right track?

Or should I build 2x6 walls and just double up the foam insulation between the 2x6's? I could double the sheets which would give it a R26 value and finish all the walls for $1,500 in insulation. Help me decide if this is a good deal/good idea :)
