Insulation Question

Getting ready to insulate my garage. I've never installed batt insulation before and I've been watching lots of videos. There is one question I can't seem to find an answer to:

Three of the walls are framed with 2x6s but one wall is framed with 2x8s. I was planning to use the same 5 1/2 inch thick insulation on all the walls just because of the bulk discount at Home Depot.
This will obviously leave a little open space inside the wall framed with 2x8s. Is that a problem if it doesn't fill the entire wall cavity? Will it cause problems with the inspection?

As always - thanks for your time guys.

I don't think it should, but have you talked to the people at the order desk to see if they can get you a better discount on so much insulation, and possibly get thicker for that one wall?

if your using kraft faced insulation your batts will still be against your drywall backside so it will be fine. if you want to get crazy you could get some r-13 unfaced batts and peel them in two to fill up the void, every little bit helps.
remember to take scraps and insulate behind electrical boxes.
the correct way to install kraft faced batts is to staple them to the faced of the studs-not many people do that. this will make the vapor barrier continuous. when your done installing in this fashion you shou;ld only see headers and door/window jacks.

Thanks for the input. It is a big shop/garage - I just moved in about 4 months ago and I am psyched to have the space finished.

I would figure up all the materials you need to finish your job... The more stuff you have, the more of a discount they will give you at the pro desk...
