insulation question

I just finished insulating my garage and have some left over batting. I was wondering if I could use it to insulate my garage door? Or would it be better to just go with foam board?

You would probably be much better off with the rigid foam board.

Also: Lowe's carries a really good garage door insulation kit with foam panels which have a nice white plastic skin bonded to them (the side which would face the inside of the garage), and on the back side the foam is scored (really, dado'd) so that they can be bent along the horizontal, and will pop cleanly into the cavity of the door panel....I installed this kit on a family member's garage door and it came out surprisingly well....installed fast, too. Highly recommended.

Thanks. I saw the Lowes kit. How well does it knock down sound levels? That's kinda what I'm really trying to accomplish on top of keeping the temps right in there.

I really don't know how much it cuts down the sound transmission, but, I would think it would have to help quite a bit vs. the bare steel door...

Thanks, I've been thinking about it and will probably just go with a new insulated one. With the energy tax credit, it just seems more appealing.

How much of a credit are we talking about? A kit to do your own doesn't apply does it? Figures.
