insulation questions

Hi all they started on my rear garage yesterday with a 18 foot wide door three foot man door on a 24 foot span there isnt any room for insulation its all wood. Will this make the garage less insualted as I will be heating it and it does get cold outside. Need any advice or ideas thanks

you'll get more losses thru the garage door then a wall w/ no insulation anyhow.

I'd just make sure there is a good vapor barrier that's sealed tight to stop air flow and it'll be fine.

Wood has an R value of 1 per inch.

I have a 16' wide wooden door and I installed a kit that is fiberglass insulation enclosed in a flexible plastic blanket. I just stapled it to the door. You do have to take into account the extra weight when balancing the door against the springs. I installed it 30 years ago, so I don't remember where I got it. It is one piece, so it acts as a vapor barrier too. The plastic is showing its age, so I have patched it with tape, function over style.

You can only do what you can do. Your losses from those doors are the same nomatter where they are on the building so just figure that the other three walls will be awesome.

As with any doors be sure that they are all insulated. Man door and overhead door. Do what you can in the cavities.
